P-51B - Do you recognise this aircraft?

This P-51B plays an important role in a book. It isn't a historic novel, therefore the aircraft didn't really exist. When you google on the registration you won't find anything about this aircraft. I had to chose a serial number, and when you google on this serial number you will get information about another P-51 which was flown by Lt Alva W. Leeper Jr and crashed on February 9th 1944 near Gaunts Earthcott, Almondsbury, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom.

I'm afraid you can't win anything and I'm even not sure whether I can make this repaint available as it is a quick and dirty edit from one of the original textures in the Warbirdsim package. The model is the beautiful P-51B by Warbirdsim and the scenery is Bony (Hungary) by LH Simulation.

Great pics! Love Johns reworked P-51B/Mustang III.

Bőny was just up the road for where I lived in Papa for 5 years (down towards Lake Balaton . Very close to the monastery at Pannonhalma as well (well worth a vist if you are in the area). It should be in the scenery package by the same author. I tend to use the airfield for my Hungarian Bf109 and FW-190F paints :-) Some ww2 trivia; Very heavy fighting over the eastern plains of Hungary and around Balaton when the Soviets came smashing in. Quite a few US B-17 and B-24 raids came over the mountains in the west as well, which resulted in large dogfights between Hungarian BF109 and US Escort Mustangs over lake Balaton. The major Bf109 airfields were at Székesfehérvár and Veszprem if I remember right. Many allied bomber crews are buried in war cemeteries around Szombathely which was a major transport hub for Hungary/Germany and heavily targeted.

Yep its indeed the aircraft flown by Lieutenant Z.M. Morse aka Mickey Morse in the book Goodbye Mickey Mouse by Len Deighton. But its not the pilot who doesn't make it to the end of the book. That pilot is Captain James (Jamie) A. Farebrother the pilot of the P-51 named Kibitzer.

For those who want to read the book, I won't reveal more. For me it is definitely not Len Deighton's best book, but its written with much attention to details. I made this repaint based on the Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-51B model "Goodbye Mickey Mouse" by Jonathan Strickland ( http://hsfeatures.com/features04/goodbyemickeymousejs_1.htm ).

There are still some minor things to do and in the meanwhile I will ask for permission to upload it.

I have the all the FS9 incarnations of the WBS P-51s and feel the need to paint them up as MMII, Kibitzer, Phelanski's Irish Rose, The Wild Goose, etc. You also inspired me to read the book again and just finished it tonight. Although not critically highly reviewed, I have always enjoyed reading it. First read it a few years after release when I was about 12 (still have my 1983 copy), which may have something to do with holding it in high esteem. Plus it had the first male Jamie that I'd heard of, the only Jamie prior to that was Jamie Lee Curtis, lol. Didn't help that bar my dad, my middle name Daryl was onnly known to me by Daryl Hannah, good job I was a strong, confident woman, lol. I thanked the lord for Jamie Farebrother and (Daryl) Hall & Oates!!

I feel the need to Paint up some AI and find a reasonable base for them to fly out of. In FS9 the CFS2 FDG2 P-51s should make nice AI as they are I'm sure Multi-LOD.

PS. Settled on Bodney, pre-dates the blue noses, not a million miles from Norwich and there's a little place called Threxton Hill close by. Plus George Preddy flew from there, perhaps an inspiration for Mickey Morse?

I bought a copy of "Fog In The Cockpit" after once upon a time doing tons of online research for a CFS2 VA of the 359th FG 8th AF a fairly unheard of group of great pilots stationed at East Wretham UK in Northern England. There are a lot of our WWII unsung heroes I seem to find and sadly the info is disappearing. The Bassingbourn etc area get all the press it seems. Lots of good photos and there is a lot online about the 359th incl their own reunion group by one of the daughters. Hope I did not hijack this...I apologize. Here is a fantastic site I found (re-found tonight for the link to share) thank YOU for the repaint. Makes me want to resurrect my P-51s for a while.
