Hi all
I have been trying without much success in adapting earlier repaints for say V2 of the great Jahn airplanes - specifically a Bush Air Cargo and Virgin Islands Air Transport variants. Wondering if anyone knows if this is possible and if so what steps might be necessary?
Thanks
Warren

They should work without a problem, however there are some changes in the entries in the aircraft.cfg file. I suggest you look there.
If, for instance you mean my Bush Air Cargo paint, then try this:
[FLTSIM.XX]
Title = Douglas C-47 – Bush Air Cargo
Sim = Douglas_DC3_V1.4
Model = C47_2
Panel =
Sound =
Texture = JK_N777YA
kb_checklists = C-47_check
kb_reference = C-47_ref
atc_id = N777YA
ui_manufacturer = DOUGLAS
ui_type = C-47 Skytrain
ui_variation = Bush Air Cargo
ui_typerole = Twin Engine Prop
ui_createdby = Microsoft Corporation
description = DC-3C N777YA is flying with Bush Air Cargo from Anchorage, Alaska. Originally built in 1944 (c/n 25634), it first flew with the USAAF (43-48373), before serving with the US Navy (17259). In 1946 it was registered with Wien Alaska Airlines as NC21769 and then saw service with Aero Retardent Inc. as N777DG, Pacific Galactic as N777PG and finally with Woods Air Service as N777YA before being sold to its present owner. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom for Manfred Jahn's C-47 version 1.3, based on the paintkit by ********.

Hi
Thanks so far and that is the texture I want to use. So far I have not been able to get it to show in the aircraft list. Are there no change or additions required to the texture folder itself?

Not that I know, mine works fine

If you haven't added the additional models to your C47, the entry should look like this,
ie nothing after model=

[FLTSIM.XX]
Title = Douglas C-47 – Bush Air Cargo
Sim = Douglas_DC3_V1.4
Model =
Panel =
Sound =
Texture = JK_N777YA

Here is the amended entry for the Virgin Islands repaint

[fltsim.22]
title=Douglas C-47 DC-3 Virgin Islands International Airways
sim=Douglas_DC3_v1.4
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=Virgin Islands
kb_checklists=douglas_c47_check
kb_reference=douglas_c47_ref
atc_id=N192AP
ui_manufacturer="Douglas"
ui_type="C-47R Skytrain"
ui_variation=Virgin Islands
ui_typerole="Twin Engine Prop"
ui_createdby=Manfred Jahn
description=

For that paint you should remove the four bump and spec .dds files
from the texture.Virgin Islands folder.

Hi again
I tried it again and the repaint would not show on the aircraft list. Sequence numbering is correct. I did have to edit the the .cfg to point to "Bush_Air_Cargo has being the name of the texture set but while the other more recent repaints I'm using are there this one does not appear (although it does in the V2 airplane) I am referring to the most recent Jahn C-47 / DC-3 and I'm using it in Prepar3d V3.
Thanks

Can you post the aircraft.cfg entry you are using please?

Here is the .cfg as I'm using it. The texture folder for Bush Air Cargo is titled as such so I did edit that. Everything shows except the last two
Thanks

Have you renamed the texture folder for JK's paint? In the entry he posted, the texture folder is JK_N777YA.

You need to change your texture for the Bush Air Cargo entry to "texture=JK_N777YA" as stated above. That's why it is not showing up.

Looks like Dave beat me to it!

Hi Guys
The texture folder for Bush Air Cargo that I'm using is named Bush_Air_Cargo. I'm happy to try this change but there won't be and I don't have a texture folder "JK_N777YA". I'm a good one for not "clouding the issue with facts" if that helps.
Thanks so far

Hi
I downloaded to texture JK_N777YA - added it and amended to .cfg as described and still nothing. Every other texture including the Virgin Islands is working - but not N777YA
This is making for a long afternoon.
Thanks

Make sure you've removed any reference to the VC from your version 2 aircraft.cfg and the aircraft's folder before using it in V3.12 Remove the spec & bump files as well, I think that was mentioned already. Your texture.cfg in the aircraft folder should just read...

[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture
fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\textur e

I've just copied the aircraft.cfg entry from my post, pasted into the aircraft.cfg file,
changed the number to the next available.
Then I pasted the texture.JK_N777YA folder into the Douglas_C-47_V3.12_Beta folder.
I deleted the four bump and spec files.

Here it is

I couldn't help noticing that all your config entries list the "ui_type = C-47R Skytrain" except the Bush entry that calls it "ui_type = C-47 Skytrain"

That won't make it not show up, but it may not appear in the selection list grouped with the other varients. Try changing the ui_type to "C-47R Skytrain" and see if that makes it easier to find.

I've installed lots of v2 paints on the v3 and they all worked ok.

Hi All
Thanks so far to everyone for being most helpful. Still no luck.
Here's my new .cfg. Again, everything is showing up except N777YA

I've noticed assorted entries for the line "ui_createdby =" on different repaints, this is the line that determines what group the plane will be displayed under. I change all of mine if needed to read, "ui_createdby=Manfred Jahn", that way all of my MJ planes are in the same place in the drop down menu of FSX.

Edit: Looks like your JK_N777YA is listed as ui_createdby = Microsoft Corporation, that's likely where it's hiding.

I try to make every aircraft.cfg entry for an aircraft match every other one except for details that are specific to the paint in question, that way it's all consistent.

Hi folks
FINALLY - after hours of giving my wife excuses for not doing anything the airplane showed up. I believe there was a small mistake in the texture .cfg and with the correction - there it was. I appreciate all the help - the big reason this simming can be such a rewarding hobby.
The best to everyone.

I had no problem with that livery. It works well in new V3.12. Change of sim in aircraft.cfg and modification to texture files will do the trick.

I think you'll find the problem was that you were editing an existing entry....not adding a new one to the END of the list.
The only way you'll be likely to see an edited entry that was not actually a new numbered one is to exit FSX entirely and reload.
You can ADD more while the sim is loaded....but once it is whatever is there is in cache and cannot 'see' a change without a reload of the sim.

aspen31,

For what it is worth I noticed in the config for the Bush air cargo that ui_manufacturer = DOUGLAS. All the other entries in your config (the ones that work) are ui_manufacturer = "Douglas" that is there are quotation marks around Douglas. Put quotation marks around the DOUGLAS in the entry for the Bush Air Cargo and check.

Joe
