So I recently watched an episode of Dogfights! From season 2 with James Jabara. It got me interested making a new paint that takes advantage of the new Model that was released with the Milviz Sabre and try some aluminum treatment on it...I know Stovall did a fantastic job, truth be told I looked at his alot. Although I had to create it from scratch to use the new PSD's I made which uniforms the base grey and adds scratches etc and removes the painted in shine/reflection on the diffuse. Not done. WIP. Enjoy the Video instead of screen shots. Says more I think. It's completely raw footage with no editing. Shadowplay was used for the first time, so it's not refined and has a slight stutter which I'm sure I'll iron out in the future. Don't be concerned with the maneuvers...strictly to watch the light transition over the fuselage! ...Milviz F-86F-30 Sabre. Jabara's Ride. Click YouTube icon to watch in full screen...best viewed in full screen HD as well. Thanks,

Looking good Rick, hope you will be releasing this one. One of my favorite schemes on the F-86. The video was good in HD. Thanks.

No problems at all Rick, your work is always first class. I try to obtain anything you do if I have the aircraft. Your work on the MV F-100 is one of my favorites.

Great work Rick,

I was amazed when I found the Dogfights series a few years ago, and it remains as one of my favourite all time docos. Beautiful work on the Sabre paint job.

Cheers,

I added gun muzzle dirt which I'm still refining and the red canopy handles...almost finished. I was able to male real progress yesterday as I was home with what ended up as 24hr flu. My pc chair is really comfy and lays back very far when not locked!

Beautiful! The F-86, along with the MiG-15, are my two favourite jets. All others pale in comparison - although I do have a soft spot for the Handley Page Victor. :)

Looking forward to this.

By the by, does anyone know if MiG-15's also appeared in polished metal? Most photo's I've seen don't seem to indicate it.

I wasn't happy with the alpha channels...so I"m redoing them from scratch. 4 more to go! Basically just reducing reflection in areas with dirt. Looks better now. No pics just update because I said it was almost ready. Now not so much. But it will be better overall when it is.

That's ok Rick, need a little time (but not to much) to get the Sabre out of the hanger and warmed up. Really looking forward to your creation.

Not while in actual military service. Could be that a few private owners stripped theirs of paint.

known issues. I can't fix the left pylon over reflection. It's built into the model and needs to be fixed.

Thanks Rick for a fantastic job on the Jabara paint. Any chance you could do a few other F-86 schemes?

Thank you Rick, for these absolutely fantastic repaints! I of course especially like the very realistic looking shiny airshow versions.

Speaking of James Jabara, here is another very attractive paint scheme idea. This, the most recently completed F-86 restoration, flies in the markings of an F-86F Sabre that was flown by James Jabara while assigned to the 435th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 479th Fighter-Bomber Wing, while stationed State-side in 1955. The restoration was accomplished at Heritage Aero, and was completed just before Oshkosh this past summer, and is owned/flown by Paul Keppler, registered N50CJ. The owner wanted flat paint for the markings (for instance, the red is original federal standard insignia red), as typically flat paint is authentic for military aircraft, but from some expert opinions I've heard, the paint that would have been used for these markings in the mid-50's was most certainly glossy. Still, it is stunning restoration, and although it is a Canadair-built Sabre, all of the details, including within the cockpit, were done in the effort to authentically depict an original USAF F-86F (including correct primers/paints, stencils and placards throughout the interior and cockpit).

Heres a quick and dirty video of the Jabara F86 warbird scheme in P3D. A bit "too shiny" for me, but this may come down to individual PC settings. I use PTA and Reshade, so my shaders are very customized. Still one great paint!!!

Yes, if you use any shaders that increase contrast they are going to increase the light balance....a problem with using P3Dv3+....which is where this was made....but since no ones' settings are identical the lightness will never be 100% what I post unless users change settings for a given paint! doh! but looks good! great video!

Roger Wilco-66 and Tom Stovall were privileged to see this great aircraft this year at Oshkosh. In fact my friend and I flew into Milwaukee with Paul Keppler and his friend siding right in front of us. Paul said he would be flying his restored F-86 to Oshkosh and his friend would flying a T-33 there.

You can imagine our excitement level went up about 400%. Here is a picture I took from the bleachers and one from Warbirds Alley.
