can anybody identify the gauges in this picture of the cockpit of the PZL P.11c in the Polish Aviation Museum, Krakow - and do we have any Polish language gauges in cfs2 ?

any help would be appreciated

Baldy,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but...Stockplane did a P-11 panel, with the following description...

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=46&id=19864

"This panel is for the PZL P.11c there are no gauges for Poland planes, so I have redraw as I can some gauges and I have changed their name so the original not will be overwrite.

The bmp are not more accurate, because I am not a great painter, but closed as possible for me to the real cockpit. There is a gunsight view too, and I have put the new gauges also in the VC Cockpit.

Best regards."

thanks

I did a bmp for that panel... modestly speaking... quite good. The photo in the posting is excellent,
except that the perspective is all wrong... I redid all of that so that it looks like proper frontal view...
Check it out ... if you want to use it... I'll send it to you...
I can also replace the faces of any existing gauge files... they are pretty self explanatory even
if you don't speak Polish... they are the basic altitude, IAS, etc.

We are just about three weeks away from the 77th anniversary of the German invasion of Poland on 1st September 1939 and to mark this event UncleTgt and I ( with the help of others listed in the Readme ) are launching a new multi-lod version of the PZL P.11c. This fighter aircraft was the mainstay of the Polish Air Force's heroic defence of the homeland.

Question: Are Captain Kurt's skins compatible with this update?

baldy

This is a completely new made for CFS 2 aircraft and looking at Captain Kurt's textures the mapping is not compatible - however since this is Freeware anyone is free to create new skins - ask Uncle nicely

Thank you Baldy, UncleTgt; this is a great plane. I enjoy learning about the lesser know planes from WWII. I cannot imagine the courage the Polish pilots must have needed to engage the Bf-109's while flying this kite.

Nice little plane, Baldy. Well done.

Dad had a mate who was ex Polish Airforce - a WO pilot. He said he never even got a chance to fly against the Germans - they lost all their fighters on the ground in the initial attacks - apart from a couple who managed to take off and were promptly shot down! Interesting chap. He and a mate then got hold of a small liason plane and managed to get to France to join their A/F, then a couple of months later, they had to flee to England! Ended up in the RAF flying Hurricanes in the Med., by the sound of it, mainly on ground attack missions. Loved Hurricanes, hated Spitfires - he reckoned the Hurricane was a tougher plane - he was shot down 3 times - the last time in a harbour in Italy, where he ended up sheltering under a sea wall with a German gun emplacement on top of the wall! He managed to sneak away, joined up with an Italian Partisan group and fought with them for several months before re-joining the Allies. Married a British lass and ended up in New Zealand after the war. He's long dead now, but I often wished I'd "pumped" him more about his experiences.

Baldy,

Absolutely no pressure. Just having a PZL P-11c and a PZL P-23b are major steps forward. The P-11a and P-7a can probably be modified from the PZL P-11c. That covers most of them!

Hi Rami

they're from Aerocrete's website or via No Dice's Free Flight site - however on checking this morning the site and links appear to be down - would there be any objection to me posting them as an attachment ? this problem also applies to the Breguet Br270 loadout

baldy

bearcat241
August 28th, 2016, 06:26
this problem also applies to the Breguet Br270 loadout

Okaaaay...that explains the P11 dp boxes now. You borrowed the dp from the Breguet! When i first installed it and opened the dp for examination, i had a "what the what?" moment (LOL) as i stared at the layout of the boxes. So i took the dp from the 1% P11 and after some adjustments made it fit. I really like this model. Having a lot of fun whipping it around the virtual skies. Tweaked the air files and the panel a bit for my taste. Here's the panel below.

I'm really curious about the original bright orange (or red) G-meter gauge in the top left in this package as well as Stockplane's version. After looking at several close up pics around the web of the P11 instrument panel and comparing this gauge with the similarities in the Japanese Ki-44 manifold pressure gauge, i'm not convinced the original instrument was a G-meter. Can anyone confirm this?

baldy
August 28th, 2016, 07:15
that's the problem with panels that use gauges in an unfamiliar language - I find lots of problems when trying to produce a reasonable panel and I very often don't succeed.

baldy

bearcat241
August 28th, 2016, 07:34
Copy that...had the same problem in researching it. That's why i'm asking here. Can't make out the language i see in the RW panel close ups. I dismissed the idea of the G-meter because of the real aircraft's historical 7.5g corner speed at 180 mph. The max limit showing on the defo G-meter gauge was about 4g, so that didn't line up with the historical capability of the plane. But the '4' would make sense if you read it as a max of 40 inches of MP. That's when i went poking around in my collections and found the similar-looking Ki-44 MP gauge. Now if i could just find an easy way to paint the whole face orange-red...LOL

UncleTgt
August 28th, 2016, 11:23
gau2bmp will do it, just rename your "new" gauge before you modify the bmp

Hi all

As part of our efforts to re-new Polish aircraft for CFS2 UncleTgt and I are launching an all new multi lod model of the PZL 23b Karas. As far as I am aware the only other model of this aircraft is fifteen years old - so let's hope this one stands comparison. I have also created a new set of Polish bombs to arm this a/c ( include in pack )

Baldy,

Does it meet my approval??? I can't thank you enough for these! I've been saying for years that my biggest regret for Fall Weiss and Poland 1939 was not having updated Polish aircraft. You've done both main fighter types, as well as the Karas. These are all very nice models, but more importantly, they remain relatively simple and are very FPS-friendly, making them perfect as replacements for the originals.

If you choose to do so, the P-11c can easily be modified into a P-11a...all you'd need to do is slap on the skin from the Fall Weiss version and delete the exposed gun ports on the top wing, because she only had the two grooved on the sides of the fuselage.

If that's all you can do, that's fine...the last two would be a PZL P-37 (K. Malinowski's version is not multi-lod) and the RWD-14/Czapla. Then that's a full replacement!

For the record, the P-11s used the British Mercury for a sound pack, the Karas has a Bristol Pegasus (I included this with my Balkans campaign sets, among others) and the P-7 uses a Bristol Jupiter.

baldy
September 12th, 2016, 00:32
Hi Rami,

Glad you like our efforts - couple of things - is there a Bristol Pegasus sound pack ? couldn't find one when doing the model - is there a Bristol Jupiter sound ?

As to P.11a - simple to delete wing guns but texture would have to wait till Uncle gets back from holiday unless there's the right one in his pack.

However I'm a bit busy with this at the moment

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42930&stc=1

this one is not quite so simple but I aim to persevere

baldy

Rami
September 12th, 2016, 01:08
Baldy,

Yes...it used to come with the Alphasim Swordfish years back when the Fairey Swordfish model was still payware. When they became freeware, I don't think they included the sound pack with it, but I figured what the hell, and included it with the Balkans campaign, so you can grab it from that if you need it.

Also, the Handley-Page Hampden has a twin-engined variant of the Pegasus which has one of the best startup sequences I've ever heard. That's also in the SOH library.

As far as a Bristol Jupiter, there is not.

And thank you for the PZL P37!

Update: There is not the appropriate skin for the -11a, so I have no issue waiting. I know UncleTgt is heading out; I'm working closely with he and Devildog73 on something.

Rami

Baldy,

My pleasure. By the way, thanks for the rent-a-wreck version. I used the Romanian skin to remind myself to change it upon general release.

You shouldn't have to do anything else for this (-11a) model. Essentially, the PZL P-11a variant was an up-engined P-7a. There were very minor detail changes between the 11-a and 11-c, including some subtle streamlining and a minor lowering of the engine in the nose to give the pilot a better view. You already covered the latter in the -11c, and frankly, I really doubt that anyone flying her would notice, even a rivet-counter.

The changes are very minute, and really didn't lead to any increase in performance, primarily because the removal of the two .303 machine guns and their ammo make the -11a a little lighter, and thus made their performance about equal.

oddly enough, facing forward, the rack seems to be off center to the right ????

Yet as best I can tell, that is the rack. Like yourself...I have yet to find a pic with bombs mounted.
from what I can find, seems only the float versions carried the bomb racks ??

baldy
October 18th, 2016, 12:02
I think you're right - the only mention of bombs is with regard to the attack? on the Shleswig Holstein but it seems illogical to have an off-centre bomb rack

if that tube thing was central it could have been a fixing for, say, a couple of twin racks for 20kg bombs but I'm just guessing

so we'll just have to keep looking

thanks for your help No Dice, I've still got plenty of work to do on both the land- and floatplanes

I'm pretty sure what your seeing is a cowling that covers the control rods & linkages, I don't think this aircraft had a factory bomb mount and a mount would probably not be that far aft (major COG problem). See attached pics/drawings.

baldy

Hi Boatz

I think that clinches it - having found no real evidence of bomb loads I think we must conclude the fitters at the Hel base jury-rigged some kind of bomb release probably on the wings

Much appreciate your contribution to this search and I can make the appropriate change to the model

There could be mounted an additional fuel tank, increasing the range to 1720 km, though this reduced the bomb load.

Bomb load: in bomber variant up to 1000 kg, in seaplane variant - 300 kg.

This is the NLAC Lublin 13, the Plage i Laśkiewicz (Lublin) R-XIII was an army cooperation plane which had a parasol wing and was powered by a Wright Whirlwind J-5, their main duties was observation and recon, but a few were later modified into light bombers. The Lublin 13 began production by New London Aeronautical Company as the NLAC Lublin 13 Mk I (R-XIIIB) in 1932, then in 1933 the most numerous variant was produced, the NLAC Lublin 13 Mk II (R-XIIID), which introduced a Townend ring on a radial engine, and a new engine cowling. The NLAC Lublin 13 Mk III was a modification which had small bomb racks installed under the wings, for a couple of 25 lb bombs under each wing, or a single 100 lb bomb under each wing. The Lublin 13s entered RIWAF service in 1932, and served in the Qaran Rebellion, Third Snow War, as well as the Saqan Mercenary War. By the time of the Third Snow War they were horribly obsolete, they were slow, with a maximum speed of just 116 mph, and the aircraft's rearward-firing 1x (or 2x) 0.303 Lewis (or Vickers K) machine gun(s) were off little defence against the more modern Snowlandian fighters, and even bombers.

Take a look see:

Thank you guys - and here's the next one (been waiting for Uncle to return from a well deserved holiday)

The development of the P.7 which eventually led to the P.11c. This earlier a-version mainly differed from the c-version in that it only had two machine guns and was therefore at an extreme disadvantage to virtually any armed enemy a/c. Many were still in front-line service at the invasion and their pilots performed heroically with their limited equipment.

Description: Pre-war fighter of Polish Air Force a development of the P.7 but still woefully urder-armed having only two machine guns in fuselage. Although the P.11c with four machine guns was being brought into service at the time of the German invasion, many P.11a's were still in front line service.

This example bears the badge off 111 Eskadra - the proud badge that was to re-appear on Hurricanes and then Spitfires of 303 (Polish) Sqn., RAF - the highest scoring squadron of the Battle of Britain.

Description: Pre-war observation aircraft of Polish Air Force, Still in front line service when the Germans invaded on 1st Sept 1939. There were about sixty of these aircraft in service although painfully obsolete and pitifully under-armed. Despite this the crews preformed their tasks heroically. Many were shot down (including those by their own AA fire) or destroyed on the ground. A mere handful escaped to Romania where they were used by the Romanian Air Force.

Hi Rami

Me and Uncle haven't finished yet - there are two versions of the Lublin R-XIII in the paint shop as we speak or have you got enough to go on?

Baldy,

That was never used in the package, but likely because it was never available. I would be happy to incorporate it. :wavey:

Baldy and UncleTgt,

I've been working over the Fall Weiss and September 1939 package with these new aircraft. I can't even begin to express what a difference this has made, especially on the Polish side. I've also noticed other things, such as these aircraft actually having proper fuel loads. This means I can actually omit an air start or two.

Thank you once again for your efforts on this...my appreciation runs deeper than words. :encouragement:

Hi Rami

As to performance of these aircraft - that's down to Uncle, I just do the heavy lifting

Re : Lublin R-XIIIs - I suppose it wouldn't take much to add them to the campaign, after all the landplane performed the same function as the RWD-14b.

There were only twenty floatplanes made, one of which tried to find the old battleship Shleswig Holstein in Danzig Bay on the night of 7th Sept 1939. It failed in that and dropped its bombs on Danzig instead. All eleven aircraft of the Naval Air Squadron were destroyed in a German air raid on their base at Hel the next day.

I've done a 'take off/landing' mission for the floatplane using an approximate 'airfield' at the Hel peninsula - yours if you want it.

Baldy,

I did a GSL town and anchorage at Hel in the latest Fall Weiss edition. I could ask Kdriver to make a seaplane takeoff point for it and run the mission that way, the only trouble is that there are some land class issues around Danzig and in that whole sector.

I know John did the airfiles, but your modeling work is also spectacular.

I did however manage to build the fortress at Westerplatte.

Actually, there is. Any chance you could work on some of the archaic IS4G aircraft, specifically a Latecoere 298?

Heck guys, if we are looking at what is the most badly needed update from the IS4G collection, IMHO it's the Fiat B.R.20 Cicogna. :indecisiveness:

Really nice work on the Polish aircraft Baldy. !!

Rami
November 4th, 2016, 10:17
Kurt,

That's another one.

The Fiat Br-20 Cicogna and the Latecoere 298 are among the worst. Fortunately now we have a decent Cr-32 and Cr-42, along with a G-50 and a G-55. A Macchi Mc-205 would be a big help.

There are also several twin-engined bombers and fighter/bombers, as well as recce aircraft that could use a new model. Most are in the IS4G set.

Have just finished uploading the last two aircraft in our series of Polish front line aircraft of the September 1939 campaign. The are the Lublin R-XIIId observation and liaison aircraft and the Lublin R-XIII g float plane of the Naval Air Squadron.

Description: This obsolete observation aircraft of the early 1930s was still in front line service with the Polish Air Force when the Germans invaded on Sept 1st 1939. Many were destroyed on the ground in early German air raids and others shot down by Polish ground fire (aircraft recognition not a strong point). Despite this their crews performed heroically in the short period of the campaign. Several escaped to Romania after the Soviet Union attacked Poland from the east (in line with the Nazi-Soviet Pact )

Description: A float-plane version of the observation aircraft. At the outbreak of war there were about a dozen Lublin float planes based at Puck on the Hel Peninsula in the Bay of Danzig. On the night of Sept 7th one of these aircraft attempted to attack the German battleship 'Schleswig Holstein' which had been shelling Polish positions at Westerplatte near Danzig - without success. The next day all the aircraft at the Hel base were destroyed in a German air raid.

Baldy,

I really appreciate this effort. I haven't decided whether or not to create the mission, seeing as how we don't have the vessel that was attacked, especially with this being a solo pilot effort. However, I have made sure to include this aircraft with the campaign package as a courtesy. Many thanks to both you and UncleTgt for your dedication and effort, it is immensely appreciated! :medals: :encouragement:

At a stretch Virtual Navy's VN_SMS_Seydlitz could be a stand-in, after all it was a night mission and I'm not sure the aircraft actually found her -- it's one of those cases where there's just not enough info - and more important and overwhelming events were happening.

Glad you like our efforts
