I came across this video while having my first cup of coffee this AM. Awesome cockpit and ground camera work. The flying is not so bad either.

Nice video, Gordon. I also love the cockpit sound!

There were Corsairs in the air in Oshkosh each day, but I never heard on whistle. I think they only do that at high speed.

Cheers,
Mark

As Mark mentioned there were several in the air at multiple times. Great sounding radial.

so it were YOU who woke me at 5 AM !!!.................guess i need to apologize to my cat then.............:dizzy:

but i have to ask..i remember back before they would put "guns" on restored P-51s,the open holes would whine..or whistle..sounded the same as this..or very close..that said...the Sanders Sea Furies have an opening similar looking (to me anyway) to the Corsair's air intakes on the inboard wings ( and before someone corrects me,i remember looking very closely at them several times at local airshows, they even had piping for water injection),they would whistle similar to this Corsair.so is it possibly the same thing as air passing over a bottle?

AND..ive always felt disappointed in the sound inside a plane in fsx that has a radial or just powerfull loud when heard outside...but it reminds me of racing...id pass the stands and my mom would tell me later the car is sooo loud, how can i stand it?...well i could hear the crowd yellin more then i ever heard my own car noise....why is this?

The prop blast affects sound heard inside a warbird: you wouldn't think the Mosquito was Merlin-powered from the droning cockpit sounds in videos but there's no mistaking them from the ground. The whistling is at least partially from the engine supercharger and you hear it more after the aircraft passes. P-51s and Sea Furies are quite distinct in this regard - the Sea Fury has a terrific rumbling grumbling note on approach and a whining whistle as it flies past and away. Go see a warbird display if you haven't already!

and for fun, here's a Messerschmitt 410 Hornisse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAcgUPjb16Q) being ground-run: the supercharger whistle is unmistakeable.

Great piece of video , funny from the inside its its just a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr but from the outside Very very dramatic, Kieth Skilling would be the top Corsair pilot in New Zealand, this is over Masterton in the Wairarapa lower North Island , great little photo real scenery for it , I watched Kieth practicing for the VE celebration at Wigram 1995 with the Birdcage Corsair, just practicing the circuit ... not much work was done by me that saturday (overtime ) morning :untroubled:,
I may have to get my AH Birdy out for a few pass's like this :encouragement:

NZ scenery http://windowlight.co.nz/ ... between the freeware and this cheap payware we almost have most New Zealand ready Corsairs
