View Full Version : Miller's Field Upload

Just a bit about this scenery as I get ready to upload it this morning:

It has been tested in FSX/Accel, P3D_V2.4 and P3D_V3.3. All Custom objects are contained in the scenery folder, no outside objects are required. I have also placed default objects and everyone should have those. There is no separate P3D version and there won't be. Seasonal ground textures will be added as I get time to do those and uploaded here. There is no night texture. This is a private field, permission is required in order to land there. . .no rwy lights or field lights so no night texture. It was not necessary for me to use a flatten, the ground was relatively smooth and after all. . .this is a grass runway. I wanted to add grass but honestly, I am still not happy with anything I have designed, even after getting some favorable results and help from Gordon. . . .so no grass. All the hangars are empty and free to use to get your aircraft out of the weather. There are parking spots, taxi ways and a fuel trigger but no AI traffic. . .I'm not a traffic guy but if you are adept at designing traffic, please do.

The image below should come with this caveat: I'm using Orbx Basic and Vector Basic with the latest North America Land Class installed, LCSim_Mesh for the US and autogen sliders maxed. FPS maintains around 30 locked to 60-70 Unlimited. Considering the almost unlimited variations for each simmer in ground textures, terrain mesh, autogen settings, etc. . .your results may vary.

A final note. . .even though I built it, it was not an easy airport to spot from the air, despite seeing it on GPS. There are a lot of trees it that region so get your bearings early in the approach (Bangor Int'l is 8nm east, off of 95). There are cones on each end of the rwy as well as on either side of the narrow area shrouded by trees on the 36 end. Fun Air Field to fly into. Enjoy!

One final note: I have never, ever found a decent Wind Sock that is animated. Despite my better judgement I allowed myself to place the default wind sock in this scenery. Personally, I think it detracts from an otherwise decent scenery offering but it's the only windsock that works and I knew if I used the much nicer looking but static version I built I'd hear about it. . .so you have an ugly wind sock. Sorry 'bout that, lol

Nope. . .and this excerpt from that post says it all for me. . ."It works in FS9 but also should work in FSX I think".

I've tried that object in several sceneries and it never did work (FSX or P3D).

The Vintage Flyers sign is flickering, by the way. The girl at the BBQ is above the ground, so I wonder whether I should take something from that BBQ :-p

Nice field :jump: I was even able to take off and land my T.5 there!

Very charming strip Falcon, thanks for this gift. Vintage sign flickers badly for me also...using FSX DX9. Only other issue is my mains sink almost to the axles on the actual strip (tail wheel disappears completely).
Don't know if this has something to do with my having REX runway textures activated. Off the strip wheels sit just fine.
Absolutely no FPS hit on my modest system, perfect blending with FTX Global + NA OLC.
I like the vintage bike!
Well done.

Due to a large number of e-mails with various concerns about the scenery, I am going to be uploading an update to address most of them. They will include a flatten of the entire Air Field area including the buildings, parking ramp and runway areas to eliminate the elevation problems many seem to be having. This will also include changes to the AFCAD to eliminate a troublesome parking spot, setting the hold short markers to "no draw" so they aren't seen on the ground and cleaning up some random nodes that caused problems. Several people objects were "floating" and those will be corrected and all static aircraft are now in one bgl so they can be eliminated if you don't want them. I also removed the two groups of static airplanes as they were too ugly to remain.

As far as the "flashing" sign. . .personally I don't have that problem, but I will see what I can do to correct it. It is a single plane object positioned away from the building just slightly and that was done to hopefully eliminate that flicker. Since some as still having a problem with it, try turning off ground shadows. . .I've found that to be the cause of major flickering in some buildings. . . .turn off ground shadowing and the flickering stops.

Look for the update later this evening or tomorrow.

Here is a temporary download link until it makes it into the SOH Downloads area. This is a complete version, just delete the original and replace it with this.

Thanks for v2 Falcon, everything looks and works great! I now notice that flickering 'Vintage' sign only does so from certain angles, something I see with other scenery objects so I'm sure this has something to do with my GPU / Nvidia settings.

One thing you may wish to know...the SOH download of v2 may be corrupt. Kept getting a failed unzip message, but your link in this thread worked perfectly.

I'm really enjoying this field. If you're careful you can even get in and out with the wonderful C-47v3. Although I've been warned by Mr. Miller not to attempt that again...

I couldn't drag the folder into Addon Scenery - got a message about a photo bgl. The link in this thread worked for me, too, though, and everything looks fine now.

Thanks,

Interesting as both the download link I supplied here and the zip file that I uploaded to the SOH area are the same. I just tried downloading and although the download went fine, when I tried to unzip I got a CRC Error, it continued after a second and I noticed that the Photo01 file was missing. Just a word about that, the photo01 file is the ground texture and did not change so you could reuse the one from the original if you are one of the ones who got the first offering. I'll get with Rami and see about uploading a replacement zip file.

What an awesome aircraft. I just did a circuit around Miller's and I had this initial reaction of "Wow. . .this feels so real"! Hard to tell why, maybe the glass reflections, the full open view, maybe those and more but that is a cool airplane to fly. Thanks Sidler.

Just loaded up the new one Ed . You've done an excellent job here . Well done . Great place to do T & G's . Thanks for your work . I picked up ORBX NA Land class when it came out and will have to check the area on Google . I think I'll hang out in Maine for awhile(at Millers) . It's a beautiful state .

Not to detract from Ed's amazing airport scenery, but does anyone know how to actually use the NAV1/VOR1 receiver on this little experimental? I see on the HUD NAV2/TACAN displayed. But when I tune the nav2 radio nothing changes on the HUD.

Also if you want the stbdy comms and navs to work enter this in the aircraft.cfg

[RADIOS]
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1, 1
Com.2=1, 1
Nav.1=1, 1, 0
Nav.2=1, 1, 0
Adf.1=1
Adf.2=1
Transponder.1=1
