I stepped up to 3.3.5.17625, mainly to stay up to speed and check my ongoing work for continuity. I've been working with specular lighting for terrain, vegetation and other scenery features for a couple of years now. Since the release of Dynamic Reflections the game has changed very much for the better. IMHO

Despite the initial quirks, the new feature seems to be smoothing out very nicely, offering a broad range of development opportunities for scenery and aircraft developers.

The attached shots are light studies of one of my project planes, The Abrams P-1 Explorer.

For this study, the airplane is in 33% gray color @ 50% grayscale alpha value and only utilizes bump maps to develop detail. There is no specular map applied to the model.
The sim is set up with HDR lighting enabled, DR at max settings, brightness @ 90%, saturation@ 95%, bloom @ 135 and using stock P3D weather @ various times of day.
Note: The radial is a place holder from another project and is not correct for this airplane. I'll be modeling the Wright R-975E later in the project.

I've replaced the stock GlobalEnv map with a custom map from Banana Bob.
The airplane model is alpha and global reflection enabled with no texturing applied, other than the basic gray with rivets and panels in a 30% overlay.

You will notice the live lighting on my tarmac and taxiways as well. These are accomplished in exactly the same way as an airplane model, using specular lighting and color to develop light.

In this case the light engine is developing all of the light nuance prior to paint or color being added.
