I understand that most people might want simpler-to-use aircraft. Personally I'm looking for addons that have a bit more features than what we used to get in FS9. I'm tired of seeing the same stuff since 20 years.

I suspected your sound problem may be the motivation for your moving to FSX Steam. See my latest post in your other thread. You may get more suggestions on your sound issue later today (Monday). Hope you get it resolved without having to dump your current install. :encouragement:

If you saw the post MrZippy mentioned you've probably already seen this one, but if not there may be something here that can help you: https://www.flightsim.com/forums/topic/35723-fsx-no-sound-what-so-ever/ Also, an input from me: Check your sound settings and see what selections you have in the Windows Sound Devices box (see attached pic). Changing these might resolve your sound problem.

TARPSBird: Thanks for your clear answers. I agree the idea of re-installation seems daunting. On the plus side of things, a fresh start might be a good way to clean house and focus on putting back in the content that I really want. gecko65: My FSX installation is years old at this point; MANY addons (aircraft, terrain mesh, scenery, etc.) have gone in and out over time, and at this point I think my installation is rather bloated. What is pushing me over the edge is the fact that earlier today I lost ALL sound (only in FSX) and have so far been unable to resolve the issue. You can see more here: sound(s) suddenly gone from FSX (sim-outhouse.com) Hi-Ho, Sam

Oh yes! Please do. They will all be instant buys from me. McChord is on my "will do most anything" to have in sim. Getting Beale when I get back from overseas. Thanks Dimus.

Cees, I use that very same "Bonnie Dick" folder for USS Hancock (CVA-19) entry in AICarriers. The original download was/is "Essex Class Beta 1.zip" and I don't remember where I got it. When my old HD crashed in late 2021 I lost all of Lazarus's ships except the ones I already had in the sim, and he had already removed all his stuff from the SOH library. The "speed brakes out" approach with the A-4 works pretty well. I've managed to trap on Hancock several times without loss of virtual life or property. I'm still learning to fly the little jet and maintain control and proper speed. Still fun even if I screw up... No real-world paperwork. :biggrin-new:

    (1) Yes, you can choose where you want to put the Steam Library folder. I believe the default location normally ends up as: "(Your Main Drive)\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX" but you can select a different location. (2) I've done two reinstalls of FSX-SE and have had no problems reinstalling any add-ons. If you have the original downloads and any required product keys you should be good to go. Reinstalling stuff is the biggest pain in the whole process. (3) Steam has an offline mode that allows you to run FSX-SE without an internet connection. You have to first be online with Steam to select the offline option, after that you're good. Questions 1 and 3 are covered in more detail on the Steam website, and if you search with the questions you'll see some how-to...

I’m fine with somewhat basic systems modeling (I really don’t find stuff like dealing with circuit breakers and managing fuel systems is the joy of flying), and I can live without texturing that stands up under a magnifying glass. But there is no excuse for not making the flight modeling as accurate as possible. I want to see what it’s like to fly a specific plane when I buy a payware add-on. I hope the flight modeling is decent. Just checked out the website and saw the reference to “CTRL-E.” Ironic callback to Aeroplane Heaven’s huge P3D misstep with their CTRL-E line, which also misunderstood what add-on buyers are looking for. My take is that the majority of us actually aren’t looking for study-level simulation of most planes, but we do want the functionality that’s modeled...

I have been running FSX for years. I recently purchased a new computer, and I would like to start over with a fresh FSX install. So far, I am unable to re-install the application using my original DVDs. I have no experience with the 'Steam Edition' and am considering using that (understanding that it means purchasing the software again) and am wondering: 1) Do I get to decide where on my machine the software is installed? 2) Will I be able to add back all of the add-ons that I have accumulated over the years? 3) Will I need to be online in order to run the Steam Edition? Are there other considerations to take into account? Thanks for any and all guidance,

Thanks, MrZippy, I saw that post (I've spent most of today searching for a solution) and that is not a solution in my case. Mysterious. And, frustrating.

This is from an old post on the Flightsim.com site. It fixed a "no sound" problem for someone else. "On the opening screen of the sim at the bottom left hand corner in small print is a selection "contacts". Not knowing what it's for I opened it and "VOILA" the sound turned on. Now all's well in my little world."

watched that video - if this is meant to compete with Carenado then 'Shrike' needs to sharpen their pencils. Also - what is happening with those prop spinners - especially in cockpit view. Flight model is well below Carenado..as in What is going on with it?? Granted the price is lower than you would pay for a Carenado twin, it's not enough in my view to justify this product in its current state. If they update it I'll be sure to check those videos out - I definitely want to have more options at lower prices and hope this line of Milviz / BlackBird / Shrike will eventually 'fit the bill'

Thanks. I meant to include in my post above that the sound is NOT muted. I have tried muting/un-muting, with no success.

Did you accidentally hit Q on your keyboard while in FSX? That mutes all sounds.

Hello Citizens, Although I lurk here often, I rarely post. I find myself in need of help/suggestions and hope such might be found here among the experts. I recently purchased a new computer, running Windows 11. Earlier today, for no reason that I can identify, ALL sounds are gone from FSX. Sound(s) on this computer are otherwise fine - I can listen to online audio/video, play archived music, etc. And sound in all other applications works fine. I can even run FS9 and the sound there works like it always has. But suddenly, and inexplicably, FSX is completely silent. In my FSX Sound - Settings: Volume levels (Engines, Cockpit, Environment, Voice) are all set to 50% Windows sound devices ('Sounds' and 'Voice') are assigned to 'Default Primary Device' And, I have the box...
