I hadn't seen anything shot from this perspective before: https://vimeo.com/271297297 Kind of interesting to compare it with what we have in CFS3 since our external views are often similar perspectives.

Thanks for the link Ferry, I'll give it a go! I'm using Corel Aftershot Pro as I refuse to touch anything Photoshop, and it is excellent for RAW files, but that's the main strength of the program. And who can knock back a Microsoft freebie? :biggrin-new:

I mostly fly choppers when I am checking out a scenery up close, or for some low and slow flights. I am pretty proficient in the air, but landing on a small pad is a different story :biggrin-new:.

Tried the slew function but no change...still goes for a swim. Not a big deal. Finally got the wav files modified. Had to copy the files outside the sim...open them in Audacity...modify the sound and export them back to the desktop. Then copy them into the sim and it worked. Don't know why but got it done. Thanks you your help and for the great scenery.

What I've tried to do is a mixture of both. Small debris with each hit as part of the bullet or shell xdp, and the more rare blow off part effects for larger pieces used in the aircraft's xdp. Somewhat related, in the upcoming Spitfire release, I've done various types of .303 ammunition, since the RAF tended not to use mixed ammo belts on individual guns, but would load different guns on the same aircraft with different types of ammunition. Ball and AP will show no visible effect since they're basically just punching holes, but incendiary rounds make a bright flash and leave behind white smoke. Usually a couple guns were loaded with this to let the pilot know he was hitting the target since his other guns gave no indication of a hit. Incendiary tracer (phosphorus smoke) was used early...

Hello Aleatorylamp, My involvement with flight simulators was earlier by around two years, but I didn't try to find others' AFX projects until much later. I actually have no real plans for this AFX other than to use it to experiment with situations that never occur in my own projects. I don't really know if the utility I used to resize the 3D model is completely stable or not. I had found when examining the model further that the Wing Span was also short so it made sense to expand everything in all directions. The dimensions are better but they are still not quite correct. As mentioned before, I don't believe it makes sense to use someone else's AFX except to examine. I like a project to be my own work, so this model really serves just to represent my competition if I should...

I am probably going to face the same problem about the VR googles :D But I think I'm going to buy some anyways. I couldn't never get motivated to buy a TrackIR, but the Windows Mixed Reality VR googles (especially the Samsung ones, although not sold in Europe...) are a different story. Flying low and slow over a nicely detailed area, like the area around an OrbX airport/airfield, or a nice photoscenery with autogen, is already so pleasant on a screen, so with VR it must be mind blowing...

I play around with them a bit now and again when I get to feeling cocky. I can do ok about half the time with them. But to me, the Gee Bee Z is easier to fly and I crash it far less.

I am glad so many people are enjoying this also. So many good tips, Daube's suggestion of wheeled helo's is something I never would have though of, I always tried the small ones that only had skids but it makes a lot of sense, now I just need to find time to try all these suggestions. This also makes me more interested in VR goggles, but I don't think the wife would be very happy with me when I am totally in the virtual world.

Thanks for starting this thread, Joe. It is a most interesting read. I'm just getting back into choppers - flying a float-equipped Bell 47 (Flysimware) around Chichagof Island, AK. Good thing about this is I can land pretty much where I want (on the water) at SPBs, so can be practicing my approach/decent/hover/landing without having to have the pin-point accuracy of landing on an 'X' or 'H'.

Another must buy for me. I have every flight sim Stearman I can find. Stearmans have a special place in my heart. My dad put over 5000 hours on them during his life as an ag pilot. Sometimes I think half my wasted youth was spent sitting on the top wing holding the gas nozzle, letting the air from the idling engine cool me off a little from the hot Arkansas summers. From the photos it looks like the new model has a slightly more rounded fuselage than others I've seen, this one seems to capture the shape I remember. Thanks for continuing to produce these great Golden Age aircraft. bwb

I bought the latest Office (can't remember the year but it's far beyond 2010) for my girlfriend because she refuses to use anything else (yes, compatibility between MS files and everything else still has ways to go), and it looks pretty good. The interface is far better than libreoffice. And yep, I use linux (kubuntu, anything other than KDE looks like a bunch of different stuff put together lazily and performs poorly, or is so simple it can't even apply vsync and you get screen tearing (and if you fix it it performs just as bad)) on my laptop only because chrome OS (actually, chromium OS, as it is not a google device) is so limiting. Linux works until some update breaks it. It happens to all OS's.
